Convictions:

We gather not because we possess Christ, but because Christ continues to claim us.

We are not the fulfillment of God's work in the world, but a community being continually re-formed by the living God who is still at work.

Westminster is a church where grace isn't just theology; it's practice. We don't have it all figured out, and we don't pretend to. But we gather each week trusting that God meets us in worship, shapes us through community, and sends us out to love our neighbors.

Here's what holds us together:

  • We are part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a denomination in the Reformed tradition. That means we trust in God's sovereignty, lean on grace rather than performance, and take seriously God's covenant promises to us and to the whole world. We believe the gospel is an invitation, not a test.

  • Presbyterians don't believe the pastor runs the church. Westminster is led by a Session: elders elected by the congregation alongside deacons who extend Christ's care into the world. Leadership here is shared, prayerful, and accountable. We believe the Spirit works through community, not hierarchy.

  • God meets us in Word, water, bread, and cup. Our worship is rooted in Scripture, shaped by the church calendar, and held together by the conviction that when we gather, something real happens – not because of us, but because of the God who shows up. We celebrate communion regularly and practice baptism for infants and adults as a sign of God's grace that claims us before we can claim it.

  • Faith isn't something we keep to ourselves. Westminster has a long history of showing up for Nacogdoches, from founding the local Head Start program decades ago to housing the Christian Women's Job Corps today. We believe the church exists not for itself but for the world, and that God is already at work in our community. We just join in.

  • We are in a season of listening, asking together what God is calling Westminster to be and do in this next chapter. We don't have a polished mission statement, and we're not in a hurry to produce one. But we are growing toward a shared sense of calling:

A refuge of grace and a witness of hope in Nacogdoches and beyond, rooted in grace, growing in love, and bearing fruit for God's kingdom.

That's not a slogan. It's a prayer. And we're living into it together.
