Music has been at the heart of Westminster's worship for more than a century. From hymns sung by a handful of voices in 1893 to a full choir, handbell ensemble, and university musicians today, this congregation has always believed that music is not decoration, it's proclamation.
When we sing together, we pray twice.
Our Musicians
Chancel Choir
Westminster's choir leads worship each Sunday, drawing from a rich repertoire of hymns, anthems, and seasonal music. The choir is open to anyone who loves to sing – no audition required. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.
Aaron Dominguez serves as our Choir Director, bringing energy, skill, and deep care for the role of music in worship.
Handbell Ensemble
Our handbell ensemble adds a distinctive voice to worship throughout the year. Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 5:30 PM. Fatima Rodriguez serves as Handbell Conductor through a scholarship partnership with Stephen F. Austin State University.
Graduate Scholar Accompanist
Through a longstanding partnership with the SFA School of Music, Westminster is home to a Graduate Scholar Accompanist. Seoyeong Jeon currently serves in this role, bringing exceptional musicianship to our worship each week. This partnership reflects Westminster's deep ties to the university and our shared commitment to nurturing young musicians.
Guest Musicians
Throughout the year, guest instrumentalists, vocalists, and ensembles enrich our worship from university students to community musicians.
Each December, Westminster hosts Mid-Day Noels, a beloved series of lunchtime Christmas recitals featuring the SFA Chorale, guest organists, and local musicians, including the McMichael Middle School choir. These brief concerts are free and open to the community, a gift of music in the middle of the season's rush.
Mid-Day Noels
Westminster's music ministry stands on the shoulders of those who came before, most notably Debbie Dalton, who served as Director of Music for more than 31 years before her retirement in 2025. Her faithfulness, artistry, and love for this congregation shaped a culture where music is woven into the fabric of worship and community life.
The Deborah Dalton Church Music Fund continues to support SFA student music scholarships, guest musicians, and special music programming, ensuring that Westminster's musical legacy keeps growing.

Debbie Dalton Choral Scholarship Program
This is a program which enhances the music in our sanctuary while supporting our SFA Music students. The choral scholar program was founded by Dr. Larry Walker, a longtime choir member at Westminster. Dr. Debbie Dalton was the Music Director at Westminster for several years. When she retired from SFASU, Music Department and Westminster in 2025, the church re-established the choral scholarship program and named it in Debbie's honor.
Amen Taco Bar
As a way to support our college choir members and express our appreciation for the beautiful music they bring to our worship, the Soul Sisters women's group hosts the Amen Taco Bar each month.
The Amen Taco Bar is held in Westminster Hall on the last Wednesday of every month of both the fall and spring semesters while SFASU is in session. Choir members are invited to enjoy a delicious taco bar and spend time in fellowship before rehearsal.
This simple tradition is a meaningful way for our church family to encourage and support our student musicians. Through a warm meal, friendly conversation, and a welcoming community, we hope to remind them that they are valued and appreciated.
If you would like to help with this ministry by providing food, volunteering, or making a donation, we'd love to have you join us!
